Young people pointing out over the landscape from a trail

SUNA Liminal Journey

What does it mean to become an adult in this moment of human history?

A rite of passage for life, purpose and collective regeneration.

A double threshold

A species in transition

The passage from adolescence to adulthood has always been a profound rite. Today it happens within a wider transition: that of a humanity moving, or able to move, toward more conscious participation in the web of life.

This journey connects inner exploration with relationships, territory, community and responsibility. It makes room to explore identity, emotions, purpose, belonging and one’s distinctive contribution. What is learned can become a practice, a commitment, a creative expression or a form of service carried into everyday life.

The emotions many young people feel about the world are not personal failures: they are intelligent responses to a difficult moment.

Methodological approach

Spiral of Reconnection

  1. 01

    Gratitude

Appreciation, presence and connection with what sustains life.

  2. 02

    Feeling the World

Making space for the joy, pain and emotional experience of belonging to a shared world.

  3. 03

    Seeing with New Eyes

Opening perspectives, imagination and a renewed sense of possibility.

  4. 04

    Going Forth

Carrying insight into practice, responsibility and shared creation.

The spiral is this journey’s approach. It informs SUNA’s wider outlook but is not a mandatory curriculum for every Barichara workshop or SUNA Global practitioner.

The territory

Barichara, Colombia

In the Andean tropical dry forest, Barichara is a living fabric of stone, water and memory: shifting water cycles, ancestral knowledge and a community reimagining its relationship with the land. Here the territory is a classroom without walls, and personal reconnection and contribution to the living world are part of the same process.

Who is it for?

  • — Young people crossing into adulthood
  • — Those questioning meaning, purpose or direction
  • — Those seeking deeper connection with self, others and life
  • — Those ready to explore both beauty and challenge
  • — Those interested in regeneration, community and collective futures

This focus on the passage to adulthood belongs to this journey; SUNA as a whole welcomes many life stages and transitions.
